You know you're a child of the 80's if...

So i'm sure a lot of you have received forwards about remembering the 80's...well, friends - i am happy to say that i have finally made up my own "You know you're a child of the 80's if..." list! i know it's about time - i mean, i AM definately a product of the 1980's and will shout it from the mountaintops - LOUD AND PROUD!! :) i actually started this list for my sister when i was writing personal memories of our childhood for her to read at her Bachelorette Party last weekend.

*this list was totally easy and fun to write! it actually kept me up at night - thinking of different memories and waking me up to write them down!! what a nut! :) but i'm sure you will get a chuckle! i think it's so funny that i feel i should share it with my all my friends! feel free to share with yours! :) i'm sure you will be able to identify with most of these observations/trends/pop culture...and many of them are my own personal memories (that i probably should be embarrassed to share!) Enjoy the long list of memories and reflect for yourself on how fun the good 'ol days were! *i'd love to hear yours too! :)

You know you’re a child of the 80’s if:
Webster was one of your favorite shows (don’t deny it!)
You still sing the theme song to the Jeffersons and have to say “Wheezy” to yourself at the end (*some of us, ok, me – have it etched it my brain as a recurring theme song in my life when I am bored, merely just to entertain myself, I have figured out!!!)
“I wear my sunglasses at night…so I can, so I can…” (don’t push a blade on a guy in shades – oh no!)
Johnny Depp was the prettiest guy around
You were either a ‘Bo/Luke’ girl or a ‘Ponch/…other guy’ girl
The Hardy Boys made you swoon
You hated to love Andy Gibb or Sean Cassidy
You loved to hate Sammatha Fox
Sweet Valley…those were the days
You were not allowed to wear tube tops after age 9
You owned a few pairs of parachute pants (gosh, i wish i had some now!)
You know at least 10 different kinds of dances (and still perform them at weddings!)
You owned (or at least wanted) a shiny metallic shirt (girl)
You owned (or at least wanted) a silk shirt (boy)
You loved your ESleep nightgown (remember it came in it’s own little matching colored pouch to carry to sleepovers!)…and you still wear it today as a t-shirt to bed! (this one is probably just me!)
You knew that you would one day marry either Kirk Cameron or Ricky Schroder
You believed that if you waited patiently enough, you get a visit from Michael J. Fox after being a faithful fan club member for many years (ok, this one is probably only MY memory!)
You were self-taught about sex by Judy Blume books
You square-danced as a part of gym class in school
You really were either Jem (good girl) or a Misfit (bad girl)
You wished you were She-Ra!
You were a Hulk-A-Manic (and bought your own ‘rip away’ shirt!)
Your parents hated you listening to Madonna (and even had your TV ‘scrabbled’ so you couldn’t watch her on MTV)
You owned a Michael Jackson doll (and wished you kept the original box – it's probably a collectible now!)
Prom dresses were NOT worn without a fancy bow or rhinestones somewhere!
Tiffany vs Debbie Gibson was the biggest source of conflict between friends and sisters
You owned at least 2 Cabbage Patch Kids (and probably have their Birth Certificates locked up somewhere safe!)
You got in trouble for having Garbage Pail Kids trading cards
You watched Soap Operas in the womb! (mine was Days of our Lives - thanx mom!)
You made, like, an infinity of friendship beaded pins or bracelets at school or camp
You had your own band in the basement of your house (i'll admit i had one - ours was called 'the rock n' roll angels' but that seemed cheesy, so we changed it to 'the whispers'! *no, i will not sing my songs for you...but i DO have a few home recordings hidden away for my listening pleasure!!)
You played Red Rover with the neigborhood kids
The last song at every school dance was "Stairway to Heaven"
Boys in school wore silk shirts tucked into their acid washed jeans with the ankles rolled up
Girls in school wore Express leggin stirrup pants with a matching ribbed tunic
You played outside more than watching TV or playing video games
You did love your ATARI though!
You were force fed 8 tracks of Barry Manilow and Barbra Streisand...among others
You watched all the cop shows on TV with your dad! (Kojak, Magnum PI (my fave!), Hawaii 5-0, Chips, Barnaby Jones, Police Woman (you go girl!), Rockford Files, Columbo, etc)
You knew you could call 867-5309 for a good time
One word: Perms!
You still don’t understand what “so take, these broken wings - and learn to fly again and learn to live so free – and when we hear, the voices sing, the book of love will open up and let us in” means…?(but knows who sings it and how they spell their band name!)
You created your own “library” system with your books, for friends to borrow
You kept a daily diary! (and it came with it’s own lock and key)
For a girl - Hair crimping was just about the hottest thing you could do to yourself (add a banana clip and you were a fashionista!)
For a guy - Shaving ‘steps’ in your buzz cut was just about the coolest thing you could do to yourself
Hair Scrunchies were a must to complete an outfit - and needed to match the ensamble (*look is complete with LAGear high tops, scrunching your triple layer multi-colored socks over your acid/stone washed jeans or stirrup pants, and oversized neon tshirt tied into a plastic hoop belt!)
You thought Michael Jackson’s Thriller was so rad (and an actual movie!)
You made up dances to ALL Michael Jackson songs (and performed them in your yard for neighbors...those where the days!)
You had your own lemonade stand or tag sale in your front yard at least ONCE
Steve Guttenberg was THE best actor of all time (hello! police academy, cocoon, short circuit!)
Bangles were not just bracelets
You LOVE to sing “We Are The World” and can impersonate each of the different singers voices on the track (again, probably just ME!)
You always wondered what a ‘vegamite sandwich’ was…?
You still can’t help but sing: “Who can it be knocking at my door?” (and perform the motions ‘knock, knock, knock, knock’)
You could not get soda at school unless you snuck into the teacher’s lounge to get it from the vending machine
You owned original record albums and 45’s of your favorite singers
You still own at least 100 cassette tapes of your ‘faves’
You thought Paula Abdul had a really good singing voice
You can name at least 10 Bon Jovi hits (and of course, you know the words too!)
You thought Mickey was ‘so fine’
You had different colored shoelaces to go with your different colored leggings
You thought British Knights were just as cool as LA Gear and Pumas
Going on a Slip and Slide meant you were a risk taker
You considered Boy George a hot girl
Def Leppard’s “Hysteria” album got you through a lot of hard times
The last song at every dance was “Stairway to Heaven”
You can sing the “My Little Pony” commercial to this day
You lived for Degrassi High and Afterschool Specials (and you were glad you weren’t living THEIR lives)
Scratch and Sniff (everything – not just limited to stickers!) were all the rage
Hair bands WERE rock n’ roll to you
Ricky Martin was your first ‘boy band’ crush (i knew he'd be famous one day!)
You remember Public Service Announcements (PSA’s) on TV and the stars that were in them
You wish you still had your boom box
If Mikey liked it, so did you!
You knew how to eat breakfast like a Champion
You had a weird crush on McGruff: The Crime Dog or Smokey the Bear
Everything was Wicked (and let’s face it, still is!)
SMORES was the ultimate snack of all time!
You rooted for Mary Lou Retton, Bruce Jenner, and Greg Louganius
You got your styling tips from Punky Brewster
You DID NOT show up to school without your Trapper Keeper
You knew first hand that Slinky’s were the coolest toy ever (and really could climb downstairs!)
You were at the roller rink EVERY Friday night and skated to Classic Queen
E.T and Annie were the greatest movies ever made in your mind
You could send spit wads, hock lugees, and blow snot rockets with the best of ‘em
Gnarly was good, snarly was bad
Speak and Spell came way before Hooked on Phonics (and that voice DID scare the crap out of you!)
You couldn’t leave the house without your jelly bracelets or Swatch watch(es)
FAME taught you that you COULD learn how to fly…and live forever!
