The Red Sox and thoughts on writing...
so i have been in bed for 4 days, sick with bronchitus (2 months in the making!) so i'm catching up on lost time...but realized i have probably lost viewers while i haven't been a faithful blogger since, i don't remember when. so forgive me and know that i will attempt to keep you updated on my life thus far. know that i am always here - in blog, email, and in spirit!
i just love writing and chatting to all of you out there - wherever you are...my friends, strangers, family, supporters. i have also had some encouraging comments about my writing ability...thank you for your support and know that i am considering a career change in entertainment journalism!! *well, not yet, but have no fear - my humor, and enthusiasim will stand the test of time!! i'm now analyzing my writing style; funny and chatty - like i'm having a conversation with you while we're having a meal; sarcasistic and witty - as if i have all the answers in the world to share; and poignant and sweet - almost mooshy if you may, but with genuine feeling and excitement. and have you noticed i love exclamation marks yet? as well as smiley faces (childish i'm sure). and the occassional "hahaha"at the end of a funny thought...but still. sitting here alone, writing to the great big world with no comebacks or criticism, i sometimes feel the need to make my mark in whatever way i see fit! *and to emphasize this point with a quote from another eloquent writer (ok, WAY better than me), Sports Guy Bill Simmons (who i would gladly marry for his sense of humor alone, if he wasn't already to Sports Gal II): p. 40 #59 "telltale signs of a writer who hasn't quite figured out his (her) style yet: too many exclamation points" . gotta love this guy! :) hahaha
let's continue before i digress. i have been reading Bill's book 'Now I Can Die In Peace' about his love of the Game and the Red Sox winning the World Series (albeit finally). my brother mailed to me in Thailand for a good read and i think to make sure that i think of him often and remember the glory years of the Red Sox before (Gosh, i LOVED Wade Boggs). Bill is a pretty funny guy - i must admit that i am enjoying the book...or should i say his 'margin quotes' - they are the funniest stuff! i'm catching myself just reading the margins instead of the meat of the book (i know, a cardinal sin from an aspiring writer!). i have always been athletic and liked to play sports (not necessarily to watch them on TV - Gasp!), but i can't say i understand it all or the fanacticim (that's a word, right?). even though i'm from New England, i can't really say i'm a fan of any particular team (say it ain't so?!). ok - i would root for the Boston teams first - of course. but it doesn't seem that long ago that i bet my dad (alright, it was 25 cents and i was like, 10) that the LA Raiders would win their game because they had the best looking uniforms! and then, like a girl, switched to the Miami Dolphins because THEIR uniforms were cuter (according to my sister and her friend). ha! this is rich.
*even a shout out to my 'Mr. T' friends out there (you know who you are!) p.82 #132 quote comparing New Guy to the Sox Carl Everett and his temper to Mr. T: "Don't give me no jibber-jabber...i pity the fool who stands up to me, I PITY THE FOOL!" :) but seriously now, even I can understand sports alittle better just from reading about Bill's own sports tragedies growing up - it is a good read - pick it up and enjoy it's tasty treats (*contains some adult humor and language*) and also, if you're really a sports fan, you can check out www.sports.espn.go.com ...for more cowbell! ha
