Sports Day!

Our office had a sports day with 3 other Christian Non-governmental Organizations (NGO's) in the area. a little "friendly" competetion! it was actually a basketball tournament (no other sports)! awesome - i AM a 'baller'! :) we only had 8 players (the other teams had at least 15-25!)
so we were definately outnumbered and in trouble. luckily we practiced a bit (not enough) and stole a coworkers husband from the rival team for a game (awesome!) *who earlier, i have to say, i blew away with a fake and roll back dribble and layup for a 2 pointer, baby! :)

we actually played pretty well - with 3 tall farangs and 5 fast thai's! hahaha. we even tied one game with a foul shot tie-breaker by each team (3 people per team) and of course, i choked under pressure (i know, dad, i need to convince myself that i can do it, don't psych myself out)! SUCKS. *i've had dreams about foul shots before - i actually wrote a story about a tie-breaker from the foul shot line when i was in grade school...but there, i was a hero - here, i was a letdown. so sad, but we played well nonetheless. it was fun but i am soooo out of shape - i wanted to die. i was aching in my back, my heel...i am getting old.

well, as a side note, i was voted (against my will) by my coworkers to be the Head Cheerleader of our team. *now if any of you know me, you'd know that i used to beat up cheerleaders in school! (ok, make fun of them...and fight with their coach!) anyways, i thought it was a joke title - that i was just supposed to get them siked up and cheering for our team...besides, i would be playing not cheering anyways. well, i found out the day before the game that it was a Cheer COMPETETION!? :( what?! i was irritated - if i had realized i would have prepared more than just mini cheers for the sidelines.... so we bought ballons, noise makers, poster boards, bubbles, and MADE pompoms just for this occasion! let's just say that the other teams were more prepared - with songs, dances, cheers, instruments, cheering sections, signs, pompoms...we were screwed! from the sidelines we did ok cheering (from what i saw - i was playing ALL 3 games!)

but when we got out on the floor (in a giant gymnasium) to cheer - we were dead tired (from losing 3 games - but playing hard!) and out of spirit. the other teams were really good - but we got out there (all 7 of us at that point...) and laughed our way through 2 cheers: "Be AGGRESSIVE" and "We've Got Spirit - How 'Bout You?"! Hysterical! (i also wanted to "U-G-L-Y" but they didn't think it would go over well in Thailand!?) i gotta say, it sure made them laugh (sort of at us, but laughing all the same!) :) *we not only went away proud with the 4th place trophy for the game, but the 4th place prize for Cheering! WHOOHOO!
(that's ours with the green bow!) hahahahahahahahahhaha

it was a fun day, and it ended with a great time of group prayer and song - it was a moving place - surrounded by Christians in worship. knowing that we were all working in different orgs, but all with a common purpose of helping people through His guidance and love - SWEET.
