My "Geek"!
So, i know you have been anxiously awaiting the news of my 'secret admirerer'... well, i've been a little embarrassed to write about this, but i thought i'd give you a little glimpse! in Thailand, people have what they call a "geek" (not what we consider a 'geek' in the states, by any means! :) Geek is a good thing here). Anyways, it's a term for a 'secret crush' of sorts. Well, i am someone's Geek! :)
"K" is sweet and kind hearted...with a mischievious side, handsome, half burmese and thai, very funny - he loves to laugh and likes to do impersonations too (a man after my own heart!), has a great laugh, maintains a great relationship with his mom and sister, loves the Lord and goes to church every Sunday, plays the guitar, gets along well with everyone...i could go on and on. truly amazing.
And, well, he has been sweet on me since i arrived at his church in Thailand, 3 months ago. It started with me joking around with the English class students i am teaching (he thinks i'm hilarious!) It quickly turned into trying to get my attention at church, to sitting next to me, to winking at me from across the room during service! :) what a charmer!! as you can tell, i'm flattered and i look forward to seeing him every week.
*******
Now, before you get TOO excited (because i know you are!), there is a problem...yes friends, HE'S 12 YEARS OLD!!! :( just my luck! hahaha. he is the cutest thing, really. i'm so touched that he thinks i'm great...i know this because his mother tells me he says it to her every week!! hahaha :) so i wave HI to him before service and try not to laugh when he does his best to distract me. later, i make my way over to him (he used to come to me, but i think his friends think that makes him seem too "needy"), so i decided to take the initiative when he calls me over, and 'stop by' on my way to the lunch line! :) *i'm laughing writing this! hysterical!!* anyways, i make my way over to him and we exchange a 'High Five/Low Five' and secret handshake! (i love this stuff!) well, my magnitism has subequently drawn him away from his friends so he can be near me...but i've managed to get them to hang out with us too - ya know, hanging out in a crowd is good! and did i mention that his mother LOVES me too! :) hahaha
seriously though - it is sweet and he is a great kid. i have been hanging out with all the kids (not just him!) after church and at english class and they are so fun. one of the teachers watching me give them attention and playing with them said "You HAVE to have children!" - i naturally replied with, "ok, find me a husband!" :) i found out yesterday that there is already buzz about making me the 'youth leader' in the church!? :)(unbeknownst to me!) i had actually been thinking about it - they are such a great group! so pray for that - i would love to get involved, especially being here longterm.
*I am still helping out with English classes at least once a week too - they are such dedicated students! (ages 4-80!!) I have also made 2 new friends my age from the U.S that are the head teachers for the next year! they are great and faithful women that i hope to have a bible study with. but i digress...
obviously i built this email up because it is funny (and sad!) to me that i attract 12 year olds (not the first time, i may add!) but, when it comes to "K", i'm a sucker because he's a good kid and i feel compassion for him. i found out his dad passed away 6 months ago...i really believe that in me, he found a 'role model' - a "buddy", if you will. i mean, i'm not a guy, but i am a glorified tom-boy at times! :) i like to laugh, and arm wrestle and thumbwar, and goof around - i think he feels a bond with me because of it - like i fill a sort of void in a way. really - because the men here in thailand aren't as silly or intentional with the kids like i am...it's been a blessing in a weird way, i think!! *so pray for him and his family - his mom is wonderful and she seems really stressed and tired lately....
rest assured, i'm not a cradle robber! and i will try not to break his little heart in the process! maybe he has a cute single uncle?! hahaha enjoy the pics! :)

You got it right, i am showing him the Karate Kid Crane technique!

We are both very competitive too - i let him win sometimes to make him feel good! :)
